Meditations On First Philosophy by René Descartes. I remember reading this book in one of my first philosophy courses at college. I was never exposed to philosophy that much in high school but when it was offered at the college level I immediately gravitated toward it and ended up majoring in the subject. Descartes was this first philosopher who I connected with basically because I could explain his positions in a simple manner without referring to the text so much. I remember doing this with one of my roommates at the time and just feeling that I had accomplished something. I still read philosophy to this day and I don’t know if I could say that if it wasn’t for my first encounter with this book.
